WELCOME

My paintings are foremost about color and shapes, a feeling of space, and implied dimension. All of the colors I mix are placed to create a charged interaction between each other.

They often appear to vibrate against each other, creating a thin line of “new” color, because the brain has trouble processing the information presented when certain colors are juxtaposed with other colors.

I specifically choose colors to create this effect, essentially animating my paintings in ways that are unique to each viewer.

Viewers also often have an emotional response to certain colors that can bring back positive memories. The biggest influence on how I create art is the color theory of Josef Albers.

The collection called 4Edges was started at the beginning of the shut downs caused by the Covid pandemic.

I gave myself distinct parameters to create within, using only circles or curved lines and squares or straight lines, but I put no constraints on color, thereby reflecting the juxtaposition of strict protocols and measures we all could take to thrive in that newly structured reality.

I also decided I would mask off all the straight edges but freehand paint all of the curved edges. It’s been a personal challenge to find how far I could push what seems like the simple idea of square and circle.
